Megan's new lisp

Well we woke up this morning and Megan has a lisp :) She came running up to me completely upset because her OTHER front tooth had fallen out and she couldn't find it. She hasn't lost a tooth in ages and now she's lost 2 in one week. We eventually found it in her bed, so the tooth fairy can visit tonight. She has announced that she knows that I am the tooth fairy but doesn't seem to think that should preclude the tooth fairy actually visiting.

I am trying hard not to giggle when she says words that contain "s". Luckily she thinks it's kind of amusing too!

You can see the packing box in the background. The big day is one week from tomorrow.

  1. OH MY WORD! Maile has lost 10 teeth. I can't believe they are the same age. Losing and growing teeth is the one theing Maile does faster than most children!

The day that both broke and warmed my heart – 15 Jan 2011

Yesterday I cried all the way home from Fairfield to Windaroo. My home was well away from the floods. I hadn’t lost anything except my naïve assumptions about the damage a flood can do. But I couldn’t hold back the emotion. As the flood waters receded, we knew that we had to do something to help those affected by the Brisbane floods. Thousands of homes had been inundated by flood waters and they were saying on TV and on the internet that an army of volunteers was needed. I arranged for my Mum to come and watch the kids for the day, packed the car with brooms, shovels, mops, buckets, water and other cleaning supplies, and set off to try to “do some good”. My brother in law and his wife had friends on a street in Fairfield whose house had been submerged up to just under their roof, so they sent me the address and I headed for Fairfield. I was nervous as I didn’t know what to expect. As I drove under the overpass at Mt Gravatt I saw a huge line of volunteers over the bridg...

15 day Tasmanian Adventure with Teenagers

Kayaking on the Huon River We weren't sure this holiday was going to happen.  In February of 2020, before many people had heard of COVID, we decided that it was time to take the kids to Tasmania.  We've taken them all over the world and had been meaning to do a Tasmania holiday some day.  With Megan now 18 years old, this felt like it might be our last chance to go as a family. A few weeks later a pandemic was sweeping the globe.  I wasn't seriously worried though.  How long could it last?  How bad could it really be?  This is 2020 and we have science and health experts who will deal with it and we will move on.  It soon became apparent that this was not going to blow over quickly.  Right up until a few weeks before we were due to leave, I was not sure whether we would be going.  State borders in Australia had been closed for much of the year, and brief openings had been squashed again by new outbreaks.  Even if Tasmania let us in, ...

Adventure in Bali with Teenagers

We just returned from 8 days in Bali with our son (15) and our daughter (18).  It was a challenge for me to hold off planning anything, but we did not book anything besides our flights, accommodation, and a driver.  Normally I have every day planned out so that we can see everything.  We decided we wanted a more relaxing trip this time.  It turned out to be very busy and tiring, but in a good way. Getting there We flew Virgin Airlines.  We chose Virgin because we have Gold status, and have spent the last few years using family pooling to maintain status and accumulate points.  I also had a 10% discount voucher and we booking during a triple point promotion. Our flight to Bali was not too bad, although we were surprised that the plane was essentially a domestic plane.  The configuration was 3-3, and there were no in seat entertainment units.  There were USB charging points between the seats.  Our flight left at 5:15 pm and arrived at 9 pm...
