Kayaking on the Huon River We weren't sure this holiday was going to happen. In February of 2020, before many people had heard of COVID, we decided that it was time to take the kids to Tasmania. We've taken them all over the world and had been meaning to do a Tasmania holiday some day. With Megan now 18 years old, this felt like it might be our last chance to go as a family. A few weeks later a pandemic was sweeping the globe. I wasn't seriously worried though. How long could it last? How bad could it really be? This is 2020 and we have science and health experts who will deal with it and we will move on. It soon became apparent that this was not going to blow over quickly. Right up until a few weeks before we were due to leave, I was not sure whether we would be going. State borders in Australia had been closed for much of the year, and brief openings had been squashed again by new outbreaks. Even if Tasmania let us in, would Queensland let us come home? In add
